An elephant encounter and a Big 5 game drive in one day
Get closer to Africa’s magnificent elephants before heading into the wild on an elephant interaction and Big 5 safari from Durban. This full-day experience combines a guided elephant encounter at Bayete Zulu Game Reserve with a game drive through Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park.
After collection from your Durban hotel or guesthouse, travel through KwaZulu-Natal to meet Rambo and Rachel, two habituated elephants at Bayete Zulu. Learn more about these intelligent animals from your guide and enjoy an opportunity to observe and interact with them under the reserve’s supervision. The elephants move freely and participate in encounters at their own choice.
The adventure continues at Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park, where you will explore the reserve in search of Africa’s Big Five: lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and buffalo. Your guide will also look for other wildlife, which may include giraffes, zebras, antelope and numerous bird species.

Early morning
Pick-up from your Durban hotel or guesthouse.
Elephant interaction
At Bayete Zulu Game Reserve you meet two habituated elephants, Rambo and Rachel. They roam freely and come to interact at their own choice. You can touch and feed them while your guide explains more about them.
Big 5 game drive
Travel to Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park for about three hours of game driving in a closed vehicle, looking for lion, leopard, rhino, buffalo and elephant. Then the drive back to Durban.
An open-vehicle drive of 3 hours can be added on request for R500 per person.
